Interview with Alana Faye Wilson (Sci-Fi Author)

I read Alana's book When Eden Falls and loved it so much, I asked her if I could interview her. She's an incredibly talented author, and I hope you consider reading her books. If you like my Timekeepers of Laeviin series, you will most likely enjoy her soft Sci-Fi duology.

Book covers for When Eden Falls and When Worlds Awaken. Both covers feature a woman's outline with smaller details of a man standing inside

Tell us a little about your books

The When Eden Falls duology is set 3000 years in the future. Earth is a myth, and the reason why humans left is vague. When Eden and Rooke’s small crew is tasked to track a missing scouting ship, they find themselves stranded on mythical Earth. The story falls into more of a mysterious dystopian fantasy from this point, where they discover Earth is still inhabited. The plot follows them through their endless endeavor to get home.

What themes did you include in this story?

  • Super slow burn friends to lovers romance (I am talking slow, but just wait for the tension and angst in book 2).

  • Post-apocalyptic, dystopian world.

  • Love triangle.

  • Myths and prophecies.

Who should read your book? (What are your readers like?)

This is a sci-fi for fantasy lovers. Anyone who loves romantasy and enjoys a soft sci-fi (it really is soft) would be the ideal reader.

Sarah's note: I completely agree with this! I read mostly fantasy, but this soft sci-fi was immersive without getting too technical. One of my favorite reads, ever. (Which is why I just had to do this author interview.)

Are any characters based on real people? If so, who?

Alana: Funny enough, no. I guess my characters have certain traits I’ve noticed in others. And I’ve also mentioned how Eden is the person I’d want to be.

Sarah: Oh, I love that! Eden is pretty badass!

What inspired you to write this incredible duology?

I remember finishing the ACOTAR series and thinking to myself how well the story was interwoven throughout the first two books, specifically. I think this gave me inspiration to start writing the When Eden Falls story - I’d been toying with it for a few months but hadn’t put pen to paper. And I was inspired to write a plot with layers and layers to this world. It also inspired me to write in a first person POV, which I’d never done before.

When you aren’t writing, what do you do?

If I could, I’d write all day long - lol. But, unfortunately, I have a rather boring admin job. It’s not exactly the creative path I wanted to take but I have to pay the bills. I’m also thankful to have a wonderful daughter and loving husband. We love playing board games, watching films,  and taking the dog for long walking adventures across the fields and through the forest near our home in Bedfordshire, UK.

What is one thing you’d like readers to know about you?

Alana: I didn’t read a novel until I was in my twenties. As a child I struggled to read and I don’t think anyone really noticed. This really stumped me growing up and it’s taken me a long time to find the confidence to allow anyone to read my stories, let alone publish.

Sarah: I find this inspiring. I also struggled to learn how to read as a child. Where we start doesn't indicate our capability. As a reader, I'm thrilled you decided to publish.

Do you have a newsletter we can sign up for?

Do you have a website or shopping spot where readers can purchase books or merch straight from you?

I don’t have any merch yet, but that is next on my list of things to look into.
